問題は「ただあなたの優しさが怖かった。」の部分だ。 この部分は多くの方がどういう意味だろうと思ったに違いない。
私はこれまでずーっと、 「幸せだけれども、若い2人はいつまでこの幸せが続くのか、それがを考えると怖い」 なんじゃないかと勝手に解釈していた。 ところが、実際は全く異なっていた。
「神田川」の作詞は、喜田条忠氏で文化放送の放送作家だったそうだ。 学生時代の経験をベースに「神田川」の作詞をしたそうである。
当時、学生紛争のさなか若い人間の多くは「世界を変えるんだ」と強い意識を持ち、学生紛争に参加していたが、疲れてアパートに帰ると恋人が黙って夕食を作ってくれている。 ふと、教員免許でもとって静かに二人で暮らそうかなと頭をよぎることがあり、自分の信念がグラつきそうになる恋人の優しさが唯一怖かったそうだ。
これが「ただあなたの優しさが怖かった。」の意味である。
